Abstract

There are many good reasons to study ionic liqs. as solvents for catalytic transformations. Besides the advantage of their extremely low vapor pressure, their tuneable soly. and coordination properties are of special interest as they allow a systematic optimization of ionic liq.-org. biphasic as well as supported ionic liq. phase (SILP) catalysis. But which catalytic reaction should be optimized using the ionic liq. approach. This paper highlights important aspects making catalysis in ionic liqs. more or less promising. It turns out that ionic liq. and catalyst stability under reaction conditions and ease of product isolation from the ionic liq. are among the most important pre-requisites to make catalysis in ionic liqs. a success.
