Geometric deviations are observed on nearly every manufactured part since manufacturing processes are inherently imprecise and measuring processes always involve uncertainties. Therefore, tolerances have to be set. They define the allowable geometric deviations of a part. However, geometric deviations have an influence on the structural performance of the parts also. In other words, there are interdependencies between geometric deviations and deformations which affect the dimensional accuracy of a loaded part in an assembly. Therefore, this paper proposes an approach to determine the impact of geometric deviations on the structural performance of a part. This method can be used in terms of sensitivity analysis, analysis of robustness and evaluation of reliability. It can be concluded that geometric deviations can have a big impact on the structural performance and thus not only parametric deviations but also geometric deviations regarding the shape of a part itself should be taken into account within the structural performance analysis.
