Abstract

This thesis focuses on the influence of the surface finish of ceramic tools on their friction and wear properties. Surface finish is done by conventional methods (grinding, lapping and by excimer laser radiation (surface modification and micro texturing). Compared to conventional tool materials ceramics prove a distinctly higher wear resistance. Frictional properties are substantially determined by tool roughness. Influencing the tribological properties by an excimer laser treatment is very limited.
