The new process chain of Automated Metal Foil LOM enables the rapid fabrication of Tools or tool Elements based on 3d CAD data. It is of Special importance in the field of injection moulding. As the manufacture is done layer by layer complex geometries outside the tool as well as integrated 3d ducts can be realized. Hence, the replacement of cost and time intensive eroding processes and the creation of moulds with a controllable thermal behaviour are the main potential of application. The latter subject is used for reducing the cycle time and for optimizing the resulting properties of the parts. Summing up, the Automated Metal Foil LOM may expand the Performance of mould and tool making in the future and therefore it could satisfy the current requirements of the Industry concerning this application.
