The increasing complexity of design, crash and weight requirements of body parts in the automotive industry leads to smaller process windows which guarantee produced parts of good quality. As a result, minimal fluctuations of the influencing parameters lead to failure of the parts. The aim of the study was the development of a concept which enables an automatically reaction on the fluctuations of the process parameters of the deep drawing operation in the press shop in order to get best quality parts. For this purpose appropriate measurement techniques were identified and further qualified to record the significant influencing parameters in series production. Based on the for series production developed and subsequently integrated metrological total system, the influencing parameters of each stroke could be recorded over numerous pressing jobs of the series part and analyzed. This approach allowed a study of the cause-effect correlation of the time-dependent influencing parameters and the definition of potential control and actuating variables of the process for the realization of an automatic control loop.
