Abstract

Based on an exemplary bending process a methodology enabling the identification and quantification of the influence of size effects on forming processes exhibiting strain gradients is presented and current deficits of conventional FE-simulation of the bending process are pointed out. Applying this methodology, approaches aiming for an improved description of the bending process are derived with the emphases being on the qualification of advanced methods for material characterisation, e.g. hydraulic and pneumatic bulge test and the implementation of strain gradient dependent material behaviour in the analytical and simulation based description of the forming process.
