Since every single characteristic of the tool material in cold forging is heavily process dependent, there is no one optimum combination of mechanical, chemical and thermal properties that will suit to all possible cold forging applications. This book informs the process planner and tool designer about the necessity for a material adapted design of cold forging tools by means of proper pre-stressing systems, numerical simulation of the production process, etc., documents this with the selected examples from the industry and composes the guidelines for a cost and time efficient application of innovative tool materials.
