Abstract

High strength aluminum alloys are essential for the lightweight construction of present car models. Due to its high strength characteristics these alloys show a low forming behavior. The present work focuses the effects of precipitation hardening of close to series 6xxx-series aluminum alloys. With respect to the developed working principles of the local hardening the user is able to create an optimized properties distribution of the sheet metal and therefore to enhance the formability of the part. The risk of failure falls and the effective costs sinks due to reduced scrap as well raising the productivity of the manufacturing of the car body part.
