Abstract

This thesis focused on the development of a simulation approach for predicting process-induced deformations of wet moulded car body parts. The approach not only captures the well-known deformation modes spring-in and warpage, but also an up to now insufficiently analysed bending deformation. Besides the development of an efficient FE discretisation strategy, the influence of process-related factors like radii correction and fibre reorientations was investigated. To this end, the sub-process simulations for forming and geometry prediction were coupled. The aforementioned simulation method was validated by analysing several CFRP body in white components that show the well-known spring-in deformation as well as a dominant bending deformation. Based on the validated simulation approach, recommendations towards the future design of CFRP parts with high geometrical accuracy could be made.
