Abstract

Siemens AG in Karlsruhe is facing the current challenges of increasing product complexity with a higher number of variants, reduced batch sizes and shorter product life cycles. In order to restructure their manufacturing system towards a „matrix production in flow“, a process model for replanning and restructuring was designed to serve as a guideline. Supported by the digital twin and simulation studies, an optimized module configuration towards a highly flexible manufacturing with driverless transport vehicles is shown. Challenges such as complex production control can be supported by the digital twin.
