This paper examines the channel characterization of onboard train communication scenarios in the context of the technology shift from 5G to 6G. It identifies the research gaps that still exist today in train onboard communications and consequently what needs to be addressed for future generation technology. In addition, the special circumstances in the train sector will be evaluated on the basis of channel measurements in the high-speed sector at 3.6 GHz., previous results will be reviewed., and research recommendations will be made. For this purpose., four scenarios are discussed for the train domain., enabling the safeguarding of developments., especially in the field of safety-critical rail infrastructures.
