Abstract

This paper introduces a method to extract the apparent permittivity of a transmission line by using only one band limited measurement. This approach can be used for arbitrary cross-section geometries as long as the dielectric filling is homogeneous, therefore extends the method proposed in [1] to determine an initial phase to be capable of dealing with a dielectric filling of a transmission line's cross-section. The group velocity is exploited in its property as a derivative quantity to set up a system of equations, whose solution delivers the initial phase offset -usually lost in band limited measurements- and the apparent permittivity.
