Abstract
Since the first ideas along the lines of what we now tend to subsume under labelssuch as cognitive constructionist or usage-based approaches were developedtowards the end of the twentieth century (Fillmore et al. 1988; Goldberg 1995;Lakoff 1987; Langacker 1982, 1987), a large body of research sharing a number ofimportant convictions and key concepts has emerged addressing a wide rangeof issues such as the following:–description of particular constructions both in present-day language (e.g.Goldberg 2006; Goldberg and Jackendoff 2004; Stefanowitsch and Gries 2003)and their historical development (e.g. Traugott 2008a; Brems 2003; Colleman2011; Petré 2014; Barðdal & Gildea 2015; Huber 2017; Sommerer 2018),1–the learning of constructions by L1-speakers (e.g. Tomasello 2003; Dąbrowskaand Lieven 2005),–the discussion of the relation of generalizations and item-related knowledge(e.g. Goldberg 2006, 2019; Boas 2011; Herbst 2014, 2020 andZAAspecial vol-ume on argument structure 2011),
