Abstract

Small product series, short development times and the trend toward customizing confront plastic welding processes with tough challenges. In general, component-and application-specific clamping tools are required to fix the joining parts. In order to enable cost-effective welding even for small batches, a novel tooling concept is presented in this article. It is based on additive manufactured and thus easily and individually adaptable clamping elements, which are used in a universal clamping tool. The functionality of the concept, as well as first influences of the additive manufactured elements on the welding process, could be demonstrated in this study.
