Abstract

Workpiece and tool are subjected to thermal loads when turning. These loads that deform workpiece and tool cause a difference between the actual and the nominal depth of cut. The accuracy of machining is thus decreased. In this paper, the accuracy of machining is analyzed with regard to both the cutting condition (and hence the thermal loads) used for turning and the reinforcement of the metal matrix composite (MMC) in order to enhance the accuracy of machining in dry turning.
