Abstract

The article is dedicated to the Itinerarium of Hieronymus Münzer and his “copy” of parts of the Liber Sancti Jacobi during his visit to Compostela in 1494. In this work the author does not analyse the parts relating to the Historia Turpini, but the chapters: De passione et translacione sancti Iacobi in Galiciam, Exclamatio pulcra, De crusillis, id est Muschlen. Calixtus, Oracio de sancto Iacobo. Calixtus. These passages are limited by scant information on the passio and the translation. Three chapters, in particular, follow the text of the Liber Sancti Jacobi much more literally than the excerpts of the Historia Turpini. Coping wasn't a mindless job, but meant looking closer, selecting, copying and adapting. Through these chapters copied from the Liber Sancti Jacobi in 1494, we are able to discover some aspects of the cult of St. James and to learn a little more about a famous Jacobean pilgrim in 1494, educated in humanistic ideals in the imperial city of Nuremberg.
