Abstract

In this manuscript we present the first prototype of an Outphasing MIMO Architecture (OMA). The concept of this architecture is to replace many linear power amplifiers by a single and simple power oscillator and phase modulate the carrier directly in the analogue domain. The prototype is designed to support Phase-Shift Keying on the Hypersphere (PSKH) modulation, which is a recent modulation scheme optimised for load-modulated Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) transmitters. It is shown by analysis of the steady state and dynamic behaviour of the prototype that OMA is suitable to implement direct carrier modulated PSKH at rates up to 50 MSym/s using stock components only.
