Abstract

EL-imaging is a valuable tool to analyze PV-modules for the presence of cracked cells. Normally, these inspections are done in air-conditioned labs or at cool nights outdoors. However, the PV-modules are supposed to generate energy outdoors in the field. Therefore, they operate at significantly elevated temperatures which are much higher than the temperatures at the inspection time. In order to investigate the temperature influence on the performance of precracked PV-modules, EL-images and IV-curves were recorded of warm and mechanically loaded modules. The study illustrates that the performance of cracked cells changes with temperature and pressure. There is the tendency that modules at elevated temperatures perform better than those at low temperatures under the same loading situation.
