Abstract

A new concept of an integrated electrical and chemical energy infrastructure via energy packages in a cellular grid structure is proposed. The existing electrical and chemical infrastructures are decoupled. The electrical grid can provide energy on a rather smart way, but suffers from physical disadvantages, e.g. low storage density and limited transport capacity. In this context, the integration of volatile energy sources and the additional demand for electric vehicles exceeds frequently the limits of the transport capacity and the stable operation of the consisting electrical grid. In contrast, the presented hybrid energy infrastructure brings the electrical, the chemical and the heat sector together by an energy package concept. Moreover, problems concerning mobility are addressed. In this way, the energy system exploits its full potential by a holistic system point of view by generating synergy effects. Based on the proposed system operation concept called grid-side management, further steps to reduce CO2 emission and irresponsible dealing with energy resources can be initiated.
