Abstract

The planar simple shear test has become of Increasing Interest for the material parameter Identification as well as validation of material models In sheet metal forming simulations. In this paper, a modified shear specimen geometry based on the ASTM standard B831, optimized for performing monotone and reverse simple shear test, Is presented. Experiments are carried out under monotone loading for an aluminum sheet alloy AA6016 and found in good agreement with previous results obtained from a Mlyauchi based simple shear test. Following this verification Bauschinger simple shear tests conducted with reversal of shear after different amounts of forward prestrain are performed and compared by means of applying an anisotropic yield function with the more standard tension-compression test. In conclusion, a further development of the simple shear setup is presented for characterizing sheet metals at elevated temperatures by means of electric conductive warming of the modified shear sample. © 2011 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
