Abstract

Today, the planning of the irradiation for most laser applications is carried out by determining global irradiation process parameters like spot size, traverse speed, hatch pattern and laser power. Locally changing properties of the irradiation area are not taken into account. The determination of the process parameters is done offline by simulation and experiments. However, there are situations where this is not feasible, the laser process must be planned in more detail. In this paper, the core algorithms used for a localized planning of the irradiation process will be presented. This planning is carried out using a heuristic optimization algorithm, so-called simulated annealing. Besides the description of the used algorithms and an overview of the surrounding algorithms and system technology of a sample application, results which demonstrate that the algorithms work well will be shown. © German Academic Society for Production Engineering (WGP) 2007.
