Abstract

In 2011 a painting inscribed 'MATER SALVATORIS' was returned to the Chapel of the Virgin in SS. Trinita dei Pellegrini e Convalescenti, Rome, where it had been first installed in 1654. Newly discovered documentary evidence confirms that it was painted by Sassoferrato, at a time in his career from which few paintings are known.
