Abstract

Highly ordered MCM-41 SiO2 was synthesized using an optimized blend of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and 1-methyl-3-octylimidazolium chloride as a structure-directing agent. By homogeneously pptg. the solid product from a sodium metasilicate water soln./surfactant blend resulted in formation of very well ordered spherical particles. This material was characterized by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, x-ray powder diffraction, and N2 and Ar adsorption using a proper, non-local d. functional theory approach to calc. textural parameters. Results showed the spherical particles are composed of domains of perfectly-ordered hexagonal porous structure. [on SciFinder(R)]
