Abstract

This paper aims to rethink how paintings after prints ('Stichkopien') may be dealt with in scholarship, to consider their historical importance, and to try to find an appropriate terminology. Such copies not only demonstrate the contemporary reception of Rudolfine art, they also bear witness to common artistic practices.
