Abstract

Treating surfaces of oxygen-sensitive heterogeneous catalysts and insensitive towards oxygen heterogeneous catalysts, esp. pyrophoric nickel Raney hydrogenation catalysts with ionic liqs. makes them insensitive against reactions with oxygen. Thus, mixing 2 wt. parts nickel Raney hydrogenation catalysts (keeped in water in anaerobic conditions) with 3 wt. parts 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bistrifluoromethylsulfonylimide followed by removing water in a rotor evaporator at 50 mbar and 50° gave a catalyst for hydrogenation 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene, which is practically insensitive to oxygen.
