Abstract

The development of a beam position monitoring and control architecture for compact linear accelerators requires novel sensors which fulfill the tight space restrictions given in such systems. This paper presents simulation and experimental data of capacitive pickup probes with high sensitivity capable of sensing beam deflections far below 1 mm and compact enough to be integrated in accelerating structures. The correlation of beam position monitoring output signals with dose profile measurements is presented indicating that the proposed compact sensors together with dedicated BPM hardware allow reliable electron beam trajectory determination.
