Hypercalcified sponges, including the chambered “Sphinctozoans”, un-chambered “Inozoans”, chaetetids and spongiomorphid-like representatives are the most abundant reef builders in Norian reef boulders from several localities in the Taurus Mountains, southern Turkey. Numerous samples, containing hypercalcified sponges and other reef organisms were collected from these reef boulders in the Dereköy basinal sediments exposed west of Antalya and Kasımlar Basin deposits, north of Antalya. The inozoan fauna of these boulders are described in this paper. 31 species (18 new), belonging to 18 genera (5 new) and 7 families were recognized. Following genera and species are described as new: Preperonidella asymmetrica nov. sp., Milysa polysiphonata nov. gen., nov. sp., M. askomorpha nov. sp., Daharella triassica nov. sp., Acoelia norica nov. sp., Tyanada irregularis nov. gen, nov. sp., Taurispongia oligocanalis nov. gen., nov. sp., T. polycanalis nov. sp., T. tenuis nov. sp., T. lamellicanalis nov. sp., T. fascifera nov. sp., T. siderifera nov. sp., T. lamellata nov. sp., T. polyforma nov. sp., Wildspongia? krystyni nov. sp., Caelispongia topukensis nov. gen., nov. sp., Tenuipariespongia taurica nov. sp., Obscurospongia chaetetiformis nov. gen., nov. sp.
The sponge fauna of the Norian reef boulders of Dereköy Basin (Dereköy localities) differs distinctly from reef boulders of the Kasımlar Basin. Also the high diversity of sponges and other reef organisms in Dereköy Basin and the ecological conditions of the growth style of organisms separates the faunal associations of both basins.
The Turkish species are compared with time equivalent inozoan fauna from the Northern Calcareous Alps (NCA) from Sicily and from Iran in species level. Among 33 described species of inozoans from Turkey 6 species are known from the Alps, 8 from Sicily and 7 from Iran. The Norian inozoan fauna of Taurus Mts. shows 19.3% similarity to the Norian fauna of the Alps, 25.8% to the fauna of Sicily and 22.5% to the Iranian. It can be stated, that 18 (54.5%) out of 33 described species of inozoans of the Norian boulders from this region are described as new and are endemic. The most endemic and peculiar species were collected from the Dereköy localities.
