Abstract

We have studied the micropaleontological association in two carbonate successions within the Lar and Mozduran Formations cropping out in the eastern Alborz and western Kopet Dagh area of northern Iran. Our study resulted in the identification of several species of foraminifera and calcareous algae that indicate a Berriasian-?Early Valanginian age for most of the deposits investigated. These results contradict most of the previous age assignments for these formations, i.e., to the Oxfordian–Kimmeridgian, or Kimmeridgian–Tithonian intervals.
