Abstract

A concept for a software framework which enables nonlinear TV experience over any IP based transmission system is presented. This transmission system can be a conventional IP network such as the Internet but special emphasis has been laid on supporting broadcasting systems that do not impose the existence of a return channel (e.g. DVB-H). The framework includes a small scale HTTP server which is running on the receiver and thus enables the usage of unmodified web technologies and protocols for retrieving and displaying content and for providing interfaces for viewer interaction. Some examples of scenarios with an enhanced user experience are given as well. © 2011 Informatik Centrum.
