Abstract

We show that the generator of the semi-group associated with an integro-partial differential equation can be decomposed by applying a similarity transform. This transformation accomplishes a spectral decomposition and has, therefore, various important implications from a control-theoretic point of view. Examples are given, including certain singular and regular-type viscoelastic materials as well as thermoelastic models of beams.
