Abstract

Published papers offer a large number of load resonant converter topologies. The first harmonic approximation as a simple tool for predicting the converter behaviour helps designers of power supplies to find the best solution for their tasks. The design of resonant converters strongly depends on the specifications resulting from the application at hand. Thus the designer has to take into account the input voltage range as well as the output power range. Sometimes additional specifications are present in case of fault conditions, e.g. mains dips. These design constraints have to be introduced into the first harmonic approximation in order to obtain useful designs.
