Abstract

The coherent manipulation of internal atomic states in a magnetic microchip trap, was investigated. At the distances of 5-130 μm from the microchip surface coherence lifetime exceeding 1 s were observed. An atomic clock in the chip trap was analyzed and the relative stability of its transition frequency was also measured. The results show that in combination with state-independent static magnetic traps, the potential geometries required for quantum information processing (QIP) can be estimated.
