Abstract

Quality assurance is a crucial step before introducing new systems to the market. In order to assure a high user satisfaction and a good company reputation, system errors are to be avoided in the products. Therefore, the systems have to be thoroughly monitored under different conditions to assure normal operation.

In this thesis, a monitoring system for the automatic detection of display errors in a car navigation system is presented. The video signal is captured and each frame is searched for possibly occurring errors. If an error is detected, it is logged for further investigation. The main module of the system consists of error detection plugins, each of which is specialized in detecting one display error. New algorithms for the detection of different types of errors, such as missing symbols and erroneous motion of the map are proposed and tested. In the last part of the thesis, the complete system is described and tested, and is shown to be a practical solution that can be applied in real-time system tests.
