Abstract

Various alkylsulfate imidazolium ionic liqs. were synthesized by quaternization of N-substituted imidazoles with di-Et sulfate followed by transesterification with primary alcs. The kinetics of the esterification step, concepts for scale-up and phys. properties of the products, such as viscosity and d., are presented. Two vinylsulfonate ionic liqs. were prepd. by ion exchange of imidazolium halides with sodium vinylsulfonate and their phys. properties (thermal stability, viscosity) and double bond transformations (hydrogenation and hydroformylation) were studied.
