Abstract

The hydrodynamics of granular gases of viscoelastic particles were derived. Collisions of viscoelastic particles were characterized by an impact velocity dependent coefficient of restitution. The Chapman-Enskog approach was used together with an adiabatic approximation for the velocity distribution function, which assumes that the shape of the velocity distribution function follows adiabatically the decaying temperature. Numerical solutions for temperature T(t) and for the second Sonine coefficient a(t) were compared with the corresponding adiabatic approximations.
