Abstract

Product developers have to develop modern products with increasing functionality and complexity in order to achieve the required functionality or property profile of products. Due to the multiple dependencies of defined characteristics and properties it is not always possible for developers to detect causes reliably, to identify possible alternatives and to analyze and evaluate their consequences completely. Hence, mainly the effects are combated or stemmed in the context of improvements (= iterations), but their causes are not eliminated.

Therefore, the overall objective of the authors is to develop a procedure model for iteration and product maturity management as well as for an appropriate planning of virtual validations in the property-based product development. In this contribution the handling of uncertainties within the development process is focussed. This is shown by using the example of a wheel hub and thereby can be demonstrated that it is not only possible to optimize the development process but also to improve the product itself.
