Abstract


Engineering of Advanced Materials - Hierarchical Structure Formation for Functional Devices (EAM) focus on the development of advanced materials with properties customized on the nano and mesoscale. The EAM network comprises scientists from different departments including Applied Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, and Mechanical Engineering and Physics. The development of EAM has been encouraged by the acquisition of world-class scientific instruments. These include an FEI Titan 80-300 transmission electron microscope enhancing an aberration corrector to enable the high resolution imaging of nanomaterials in unprecedented clarity. The instrument also includes a full suite of state of the art spectroscopic and tomographic techniques. EAM is also focusing on hybrid electronic systems which exploit the advantages of both organic and inorganic materials.
