Abstract

The Azores plume provides evidence for Archaean subduction and long term storage in the mantle. It has low buoyancy flux, large variation in radiogenic and stable isotopes in erupted products, and contains evidence for recycling of materials subducted beneath an arc. The mantle plumes' importance and impact to the geodynamic evolution and behavior of Earth's mantle have urged geochemists, experimentalists, modelers, and seismologists to conduct a conference. The meeting will be held at the Aldeia da Fonte Hotel in Pico, Azores. It will include three days of presentations and two days of field observations.
