Abstract

Adherence to regular physical activity (PA) is of utmost importance to benefit from the many positive health effects in persons with MS (pwMS). In contrast, the vast majority of pwMS is quite physically inactive. Thus, effective physical activity promotion programs are needed. Web-based interventions are feasible and are a promising measure to overcome current limitations regarding the provision and delivery of exercise training and physical activity.

This presentation provides an overview of current research on determinants of physical activity among pwMS plus perceived barriers and facilitators from the perspective of pwMS. Additionally, needs and wants of pwMS regarding web-based resources and offers are incorporated. Potentials such as the integration of technology (e.g. accelerometers), the provision of an interdisciplinary after-care approach and how individualisation in web-based intervention regarding the needs, goals and motivational prerequisites of pwMS can be accomplished will be presented.
