Project details

Short description

In the coming decades, AI will decisively shape and change our economy, but also society, politics, and all areas of human life. AI is already influencing our everyday lives, from voice assistants to artificial prostheses and lending criteria. This contrasts with the low level of knowledge about the topic in society, as well as at schools and universities: Polarizing views between a " doomsday scenario" and a "panacea" for all of humanity's problems predominate. This is becoming more and more of a problem, as dealing with AI requires increasingly urgent political and ethical decisions and requires appropriate expertise.

The School Museum Nuremberg is known for the development of learning laboratories (especially Mathelier and Matheland). Together with the Chair for Computer Science Education (Prof. Dr. Marc Berges) and the Chair for Computer Science 3 (Computer Architecture, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dietmar Fey) at FAU, a novel learning arrangement has been developed, built, and researched since October 2020: a learning lab on the topic of artificial intelligence.

The learning lab, which will be loaned free of charge to schools and educational institutions in the Nuremberg metropolitan region, is intended to convey knowledge about AI to students in an intensive and sustainable form.

The target group is the 7th to 12th grade of all types of secondary schools. At the same time, the project offers the opportunity to promote FAU and, in particular, the relevant courses of study in the metropolitan region - especially in the context of the pressing shortage of skilled workers and the accelerated pace of technological progress.

The project is supported by Zukunftsstiftung der Sparkasse, Joachim Herz Stiftung, Universitätsbund, Innovationsfond Lehre and Siemens AG. Further sponsors and partners are currently being sought.
