Background After the migration movement of the year 2015, it was often found that the offered psychotherapeutic services were not sufficient to address the expected demand. Objectives The aim of this study was to use a questionnaire to analyze the treatments carried out in a special outpatient clinic at a regular care facility, and to determine their specific aspects. Materials and methods The flow and contents of psychotherapeutic consultations with refugees were discussed in the research team. On this basis, expected settings and interventions were summarized in a questionnaire. This served as a retrospective study of the treatments carried out. The data were evaluated descriptively. Results 60 treatments of refugees were evaluated. Our results provide a differentiated overview of the contents of the treatments in a group of patients with high mental stress. For example, the seating arrangement in an interpreted conversation was carried out in 56 cases, psychoeducation in 43 cases, regulation of affect and stress in 32 cases, treatment with psycho-pharmaceuticals in 24 cases and the discussion of religious aspects in 28 cases. Conclusions The contents of the examined treatments can be categorized into interventions, special settings, medical-psychotherapeutic treatment, and the attention paid to cultural and religious aspects. It can be argued that in the case of refugees, the establishment and maintenance of the framework conditions of safety, goal clarification, time management and relationship are of great importance. Our results illustrate that in the examined treatments stabilizing interventions took place, but also intercultural and religious aspects were addressed. Especially the establishment of a stable relationship with the refugees is interfered by intercultural and religious aspects and the specificity of the presence of an interpreter and the translation process.
