Abstract

Singh et al. interpreted their recent results on creep of LiF single crystals at extremely low stresses and creep rate as violation of the ‘natural’ steady state creep law. Re-analysis of their data indicates that this interpretation is not conclusive due to the uncertainty in definition of the steady state caused by the strain dependence of creep rate and the systematic reduction of the stress exponent of the creep rate with decreasing stress as the mean free path of dislocations approaches the specimen size (‘size effect’).
