Abstract

How is our relation to the world shaped by technologies in the digital age? An approach to answer this question is given by connecting the concept of postphenomenology with those of phenomenological sociology and the sociology of technology. This view leads to the result that, in the digital age, technologically produced and digitally prepared and distributed data allow specific competences to arise. Those using the data are enabled to generalize, select and connect information, which empowers them to handle complex situations and to participate in the late modern society.
