Abstract

The current demographic development leads to an increase of old and very old patients at all levels of care. This means a challenge in the care and management of geriatric patients.Diabetes is one of the most common comorbidities among geriatric patients and needs an optimal and consistent treatment. Poorly controlled diabetes paves the way for geriatric syndromes such as dementia and frailty. Adaequate therapy of diabetes enables old patients to have a higher quality of life and risk reduction regarding the development of dementia.
