Abstract

This chapter describes the fundamentals of gas transport. This includes an introduction to the basic terminology and basic physical laws with respect to natural gas. Then the basic elements needed to represent gas networks are discussed: pipes, resistors, valves, control valves, and compressor machines and drives. These elements can be grouped into larger entities like compressor groups and subnetwork operation modes.
