Abstract


Today, the short product lifecycle is a main challenge to the product developer. This requires a high level of product maturity even in the virtual design stage. The consequence is a reduced time-to-market. Hence, the application of non-parametric shape optimization, especially the low setup-costs, robustness and high flexibility, is successfully established as a common standard. The common method for redesign of the adapted shape (triangulated surface data) in productive use is redesign by means of a CAD-system and visual interpretation. This procedure is susceptible to errors. Conse­quently, an efficient procedure is still lacking for seamless redesign of shape optimization results in a CAD System. This paper focuses on the development of a solution by presenting an approach and the basic structure of the associated design assistance system. By means of this application, it is possible for the product developer to integrate the complex shape changes of the optimization process in the original CAD model – even without any reverse engineering knowledge. The feature structure of the original model remains intact – and thus the intention and the knowledge of the product developer.
