Abstract

The phenomenon of "mode lock-in" occurs in structures, where vibrations are excited by contact forces, as for example between disc and pads at disc brakes. In general, mode lock-in denotes the coupling of substructure modes which form the vibratory response of the assembly, leading to brake squeal.
