Abstract

Piezoelectric actuators, such as piezoelectric stack actuators and patch transducers, are utilized in a wide field of applications. Numerical simulations are commonly exploited to predict the electrical and mechanical performance of the applied piezoelectric actuators and further components. The complex composition of commercially available piezoelectric actuators, however, leads to high simulation durations and an excessive characterization effort. We present an approach to homogenize and simultaneously characterize piezoelectric actuator structures through the simulation-based inverse method. As a result, the homogeneous actuator model consists of only one fictive material with effective material parameters.

In contrast to common bottom-up homogenization methods, our approach does not require

material parameters of all involved materials and is not reliant upon the knowledge about the detailed actuator structure.
