Abstract

In this paper, we consider prefiltering for reduced-state equalization of frequency-selective multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels. We introduce the minimum- and maximum-phase equivalent MIMO system transfer functions, respectively, and show their relation to zero-forcing decision-feedback equalization (ZF-DFE). Furthermore, energy concentration properties of the minimum- and maximum-phase equivalent are established which are generalizations of their well-known SISO counterparts and suggest to insert a MIMO prefilter in front of any trellis-based reduced-state equalization algorithm. Finally, a MIMO prefilter computation algorithm with lower complexity than state-of-the-art schemes is given.
