Abstract

A newly discovered section that extends through much of the Permian has been discovered in central Iran, and it differs from all other known Permian section in Iran by the occurrence of the thalamid sponge Amblysiphonella. Amblysiphonella iranica n. sp. is described here, from this section in central Iran (northern area of Esfahan). Age of Amblysiphonella-bearing beds is most probably upper Lower Permian. The genus Amblysiphonella is reported here for the first time from the Permian of Iran.
